From the very beginning Christians have gathered together to hear the Word of God, and there have been individuals entrusted with the task of reading the Word.
A Lector is required to read from scripture to the congregation. Lectors must understand and believe that they are performing a real ministry of presence and communion, they must accept that the Lord is active and present to the assembly through their proclamation, and that the Lord longs to speak and be heard in the biblical Word they proclaim. An effective Lector brings so much to the reading with voice and gesture that people will automatically shift their attention away from the booklets they hold if they’ve not already put them down once you’ve started speaking.
To be effective, the Lector must be prepared, Lector workbooks are training is provided.
If you feel that you have a gift of public speaking to offer and would like to become a Lector, please complete our volunteer form. You can email any questions to volunteers@stalbertthegreat.ca and one of our Volunteer Coordinators will connect with you.
