Coming Alive Camp

Coming Alive Camp completed its 17th camp from July 17-21, 2023.  You can view the 2023 Camp Report at  this link  .

This faith-based camp runs for one week each July (always the week after Stampede) from 9am to 1pm daily from Monday to Friday inclusive.  Its focus is on children entering grades 1-6 and includes youth volunteers who assist campers (who are entering grades 7-12) and adult volunteers who run various stations and help around the camp.

The goal of the Coming Alive Camp is to provide a safe place where children can encounter Jesus through faith-based lessons, crafts, music, recreation, and a daily Mass.  The camp is also a place where children, teens and adult volunteers can celebrate community, build relationships, and grow in their faith.  Each year the camp has a different theme which always aims to help children know God’s love, that we are called to be His disciple, how we can live in God’s love and give His love to others and that God gives us the help of Our Blessed Mother, all the Saints, and His church on earth.

The children of volunteers who are too young to attend the camp are invited to a special “Cherubs” group where they are cared for by volunteers and youth leaders in their own special version of the camp.  In this way, volunteers can bring their families and experience the camp together.  We provide training sessions for our volunteers and youth leaders prior to the start of the camp.

Most volunteer positions take place only within the week of the camp but there are other positions (team leads for each area of camp) that require planning or assistance in the months before the camp starts.  Other volunteers that are not part of the actual camp week experience are needed to help secure sponsorship from local businesses to help keep the camp costs affordable for all families.

Youth volunteers are needed to assist small groups of campers as they move in groups through various stations during the camp week.  Adult volunteers are needed to assist the youth volunteers, to prepare and facilitate the Mass and to coordinate or assist in: preparing and serving snacks, delivering faith-based lessons, recreational activities and crafts.  Volunteers must be members of the parish and must complete the Model Code of Conduct before being able to participate.  In addition, adult volunteers must do a vulnerable sector search (Police Check) and complete the diocesan online training for working with vulnerable people.

Training for each volunteer role is provided.

Our next Camp will run July 15-19, 2024.  If you would like to be a part of this fun and rewarding ministry, please contact Liisa at comingalivecamp@gmail.com
