BAPTISM OF THE LORD January 12th, 2025

Click for Sunday's Readings
As we celebrate this feast of the Baptism of the Lord, we can study His actions at the Jordan River as a powerful example of servant leadership. We see in Jesus a type of leadership that is characterized by humility and leading by example. Certainly, the sinless Savior did not need a baptism of repentance! But Jesus humbly made Himself one with his people to draw us to Him and create a relationship with us so that we would be open to His teachings and influence. As a servant leader, we also see that Jesus leads by example. He doesn’t just tell the people they need to be baptized. He shows them how and does it Himself to teach them. To lead like Jesus, we, too, must “walk the walk” and not just “talk the talk.” If we want those who we lead to be generous and hard-working, then we must show them how to do this by demonstrating generosity and hard work ourselves. Immediately after His baptism, we learn of the powerful affirmation of the Father who opens the heavens, sends the Holy Spirit upon Jesus in bodily form, and says audibly, “This is my beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased.” Let us be filled with gratitude for our amazing God and be reminded that when we are grateful followers of Jesus and servant-leaders in imitation of Him, the Father will be well-pleased with us, too. Let us be filled with gratitude for our amazing God and be reminded that when we are grateful followers of Jesus and servant-leaders in imitation of Him, the Father will be well-pleased with us, too. ©Catholic Stewardship Consultants www.CatholicSteward.com

2024 Donation Update from Calgary Diocese
The Calgary Diocese is aware that the federal government has announced its intention to amend the Income Tax Act to extend the 2024 charitable donation deadline to February 28, 2025. However, please note this change has not yet been passed into legislation. Therefore, December 31, 2024, remains the final day to ensure donors receive a 2024 charitable tax credit. To avoid any potential disruption in the event the proposed legislation is not enacted, the Diocese recommend donors make their donations as follows: - Mailed Donations: Must be postmarked by Canada Post on or before December 31st. Given the recent Canada Post strike and potential delays, we strongly encourage donations to be made online.
- Online Donations: Tax receipts will reflect the date of the donation. Donations made after 21:59 MT on December 31st will be considered donations for the 2025 tax year.
- Dropped Off Donations: Donations must be received at the Diocese/Parish before end of work day on December 31st. Please ensure that the envelope is date stamped by the account/parish office when it was received and must be kept with the deposit in case of a CRA audit.
Any donations received on or after Jan 1, 2025, will apply to the 2025 tax year.

Helping Our New Canadian Family Find Employment
Camilla, Clara and Katrina have been settling into their new life in Canada. This Christmas was especially meaningful as it was the first in many years that they were not alone. They have expressed deep gratitude for the warmth and support of their new church family.
Camilla is now ready to find stable employment and has begun her job search. With experience in dental, medical, and pharmacy administration, as well as housekeeping and cleaning, she brings valuable skills and is eager to contribute to her new community. Her English is steadily improving, and she is excited about the opportunity to work.
If you or someone you know can help connect them with job opportunities or offer guidance in their search, please reach out. Your support can truly make a difference in helping this family build a brighter future in Canada. We ask for your prayers, that they may find fruitful employment.

St. Albert the Great … God Bless us all!
Looking back at 2024, we can all be very proud of the charitable works we accomplished with your help allowing us to assist the many humble families that reached out to us in their time of need.
Here is a snapshot of what we did: December 2024 Hampers delivered: 267 Adults served: 594 Children served: 509
2024 Totals Hampers delivered: 876 (in 2023 we delivered 765) Adults served: 1756 Children served: 1350
Emergency food hampers are our primary service. However, with your generous help St. Albert the Great parishioners, we were able to help several families avoid utility disconnect and avoid eviction, which in our current climate in Calgary is life altering when an eviction happens. We helped several families with backpacks and school supplies as well as providing some household items. It was the right thing to do and with your kind support we were able to do just that.
St. Vincent de Paul slogan: Our Care is an act of love.
Looking forward to 2025 we are anticipating a steady increase in requests for our help and this will require funds.
Therefore, we will resume our monthly financial collections after Mass on the second weekend of the month starting this weekend.
ATTENTION DONORS!!
Donors, please consider switching the delivery of your tax receipt from Canada Post to email. If you do, please email svdp.satg.donations@gmail.com You will receive a confirmation email of the switch.
