Our Psalm today, “The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy,” sheds light on our glorious Gospel reading about the healing of the blind man, Bartimaeus.
We can learn a lot from Bartimaeus when it comes to our own personal relationships with Jesus. Many of us struggle with something from which we need healing — physical blindness, illness, addiction, bad habits, anger, sin. In our weakness, do we confidently cry out to Jesus knowing that He will help us?
Oftentimes we begin to, but then a voice in our thoughts tells us to doubt and encourages us to stop trying, like the crowd in our Gospel. Although that voice is persistent and strong, we are called to cry out all the more. If Jesus can hear one voice in a crowd of many, then He can hear our direct prayer to Him in our hearts.
Our Gospel story closes with the miraculous moment when Bartimaeus is healed. The conversation with Jesus was simple. Jesus asked Bartimaeus what he would like Him to do. This man, blind for who knows how many years, desired sight. Jesus responded, “Go your way; your faith has saved you.” He was healed and continued to follow Christ.
There was not much that Bartimaeus had to do to become healed. All he needed was his undoubting faith.
Whatever it is that we are struggling with in this life, all Jesus asks of us is to have faith in Him. As a result, we will remain steadfast in our relationship with Christ and will have the strength to keep going. And although we might not be healed in this life, Jesus still hears our confident cries. And through our faith we will surely be healed in the next. (©Catholic Stewardship Consultants)

DID YOU KNOW? SUNDAY COLLECTION!
You may have noticed that we don't send around collection baskets during mass, this started when the Diocese provided direction on collections during the pandemic.
We replaced regular mass collection with collection at the end of mass, located at each main exit, we have a table with collection envelopes or friendly volunteers holding baskets ready to accept your cash, cheque or envelope.
The special collection that takes place at the stairs of the altar is for Holy Childhood Association, a mission organization for children to help other children. This is why it takes place immediately after children's liturgy.

Our Nave is a Sacred Place!
Our Nave (the main part of the church) is a Sacred place! It is where we come to be one with our Lord. Parishioners may be praying, kneeling, sitting, reading, adoring our Lord, or in silent contemplation. Please be respectful of others. When you enter, please be aware that you are in God's sanctuary. Turn your cell phones off prior to entering, have your catch up with friends in the Narthex before you enter or after when mass ends. DO NOT bring Food or Drinks into this space (water & baby bottles are acceptable if needed) and minimize the number of loud toys or activities you bring for your children.
God wants children to come to him, which means we must also teach our children to respect His space, to listen, to participate in all parts of the mass and learn along with you. No child is too young to start learning the etiquette of the mass. There are various places within the parish that you can go if you feel your children are disrupting the mass. The first would be the Crying Room (St. Anne's Room), situated next to the children's liturgy room. This room is intended for short stays, where you can calm your child and then return to mass. It is not a playroom, and all children must be accompanied by a caregiver at all times. The other is the Narthex (the main entry of the church) this space is available for you to calm your child, make use of the washroom or to take a moment and re-focus before returning to the Nave.
Our parish is large, and it can get loud in the Nave if everyone is shuffling about, children are crying or people are talking, making it very difficult to hear throughout the church. We come to hear God's word, to receive the Eucharist and listen to the priest explain what God is trying to teach us in our Sunday readings. Because of this we ask you to remain silent when the priest is doing the homely, and during: - The offering and presentation of bread and wine at the altar.
- Their consecration by the priest during the eucharistic prayer.
- The reception of the consecrated elements in Holy Communion.
The church is not a gymnasium, and we ask that younger children be accompanied by a caregiver at all times. This includes before and after mass. There is no running within the Nave, the Narthex, or main hall (basement) for safety reasons it is important to stop them as quickly as possible to avoid injury. The Narthex is often filled with banners, displays, flowers and more that can cause serious injury. Many of the items within the Narthex are paid for by the parish, some of these items are costly to replace! During Sunday social there is risk of running children bumping into hot coffee, tea or accidental head bumps into other children, for this reason we ask all parents to be mindful of these safety concerns within the parish.
Over the past several months we have had to call a plumber multiple times to service our washrooms. On more than one occasion it was to remove paper towel that had been flushed down our toilets. Plugged toilets remain our biggest issue. Our parish is over 25 years old; it doesn't operate like it once did. For this reason, we have signs posted in all washrooms and most stalls indicting that our toilets need a helping hand. They flush slow, please be patient with them. This is a costly item to have to keep maintaining and your help in ensuring our parish runs and operates smoothly is key! This includes reminding your children to ask for help if the toilet doesn't flush.
Most of what takes place in this parish is done by our wonderful volunteers! If you see something out of order such as a bathroom sink or toilet, a broken or damaged song book please let one of them know. It's also important to take your trash out with you, and to ensure the pew is back to the way it was when you arrived. If your children have drawn on our envelopes or crinkled them up, please put them in the recycling box in the Narthex near the washroom.
Thank you for helping us ensure our parish is ready to go for whoever comes to mass next, and for years to come. God Bless.

Parishioners are asked to park in the parking lot first and to avoid street parking whenever possible.
Avoiding the non-parking zones such as the bus stop, walkways and curb breaks helps us and the community.
Your help is greatly appreciated!

Saint Albert’s Men
The next sessions will be after the 9:00 am Holy Mass on October 26. Men of all ages in our community are suffering from a lack of social connection, fraternity, and support in carrying out their vocations as Catholic men in today’s world.
How can we truly live in the image and WILL of God? How can we become authentic men while fulfilling our roles within our communities, families, and work?
You are invited to a Saturday morning video presentation followed by an opportunity to share and discuss the video with fellow men in our parish while enjoying coffee and donuts.
Come and join us – we look forward to meeting with you.

RCIA Sponsors Needed for this November! Information session Oct. 26th at 10 am
RCIA Sponsors Needed for this November
Our parish needs eight more sponsors to accompany those who are on the journey to become Catholic, through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.
Sponsors offer companionship and prayer that supports the Catechumen or Candidate through the RCIA process. You do not need to be a teacher of the faith, just a fully initiated and practicing Catholic. Many sponsors have said this role has helped them grow in their own faith. The time commitment is to attend some of the weekly Wednesday evening catechesis sessions and ultimately the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil.
If you think God is calling you to this ministry, please attend an information session on Oct. 26th at 10 am upstairs in Fr. Pat's Room (confession/reconciliation room), no commitment required! You can also contact Greg Yont at rcia@stalbertthegreat.ca
