Often, we live our lives working for temporary happiness. But today, Jesus reminds us to “not work for food that perishes, but for the food that endures for eternal life.” Our Eucharistic meal is the Spiritual Food that we consume — Jesus Himself, Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity. It will satisfy us as Jesus says, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.” We all have the need to be satisfied. It is in our humanity. And in that incompleteness, we grab at what surrounds us to satisfy our hearts. It could be the next job promotion, the comforts in our homes, the next trip we plan to take. The list goes on. We might think to ourselves, ‘then I will be happier.’ Or maybe we don’t even realize how we are relying on those things or events in our lives. And while many of those things are good and bring us joy, they are only a small glimpse of the deeper, lasting happiness that the Lord offers us. They are gifts that should remind us of our Good and Gracious Creator. Instead of placing undue importance on those things or people, place it on Jesus, as He says, “Whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.” He is the One who fills our hearts. As you go about your day-to-day lives this week, try to recognize the times you are “working for food that perishes” by seeking things of the world to satisfy your heart. In those moments, recall that everything we have is a gift from God. Instead of misusing that gift, offer a prayer of thanksgiving for all He has given to you.

Fraternitas, Virtus, Integritas (Brotherhood, Virtue, Integrity)
Men of all ages in our community are suffering from a lack of social connection, fraternity, and support in carrying out their vocations as Catholic men in today’s world.
There are several groups in our parish already, and rightly so. This group aims to challenge men to get to know and support each other in leading authentically Catholic lives during these confusing times. We can all just follow the rules and attend Mass, but is that enough? How can we truly live in the image and WILL of God? How can we become authentic men while fulfilling our roles within our communities, families, and work?
You are invited to a Saturday morning video presentation followed by an opportunity to share and discuss the video with fellow men in our parish while enjoying coffee and donuts. The first session will be after the 9:00 am Holy Mass on September 14.
Come and join us – we look forward to meeting with you.

Chalice Thanks St. Albert the Great Parish
Chalice extends their heartfelt gratitude to Fr. Maruszczak and St. Albert the Great parish for hosting a Child Sponsorship Weekend on June 29-30. As a result, 15 children were sponsored, in addition to those who are usually sponsored after more time and consideration. On behalf of these children, we give thanks to God that you have revealed His love to them and have given them hope for the future! Chalice envisions a world where all children and families have the means to overcome the cycle of poverty. Please prayerfully consider a call to sponsorship, a unique way to live out your faith by providing hope for a child in need. Please visit chalice.ca or call 1-800-776-6855 for more information on our mission or to sponsor a child today.

The St. Albert the Great CWL has partnered with Canadian Blood Services to promote blood donation within our community. Join our Partners for Life team (STAL0116763).
NOTE:
The SATG Catholic Women’s League started a 2024 campaign in conjunction with Canadian Blood Services to increase awareness for the need of blood donors. As part of this campaign, we had Canadian Blood Services complete a site inspection in the hopes St. Albert the Great Parish could become a donation site. Unfortunately, the church elevator and ramp do not accommodate the movement of their equipment. Despite us not being able to be a donation site, the CWL continues to encourage all eligible parishioners, their families, and friends across Canada to make a blood or plasma donation this year. Our CWL parish team name is “St. Albert the Great Catholic Women’s League” through www.blood.ca if you wish to join our team. Our team has made 6 donations so far! There are several donation sites across the city that change based on site availability. The Acadia Recreation Complex and Southview Church in Walden are currently the closest sites to our Parish.
Thank you for your continued support!

40 Hours Devotion for Vocations
"Getting up in the middle of the night and driving to Adoration for 3 am was an amazing experience. While meditating on the actual presence of Christ right before my eyes, I was struck by how more acute and aware my senses and attention were at this dark hour," shares one parishioner during the 40 Hours Devotion for Vocations. The response to this initiative has indeed been extraordinary. Over the last month and a half, more than a thousand parishioners have come to adore Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament and pray for vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life.

Sunday Bulletin shorts
As we put much effort into obtaining material comforts, our souls thirst for what cannot be seen and our hearts ache for what cannot be proven. Jesus’ words today, “I am the bread of life,” are God’s manna, “proven” by the fact that something deep within us leaps for joy at these words. Jesus points to himself as the source of a hunger-free, thirst-free, everlasting life. Jesus’ powerful, self-giving love is patient with his listeners. At great risk to his own life he does not mince words about what kind of spiritual bread has the power to really sustain us. - Is there a word from the Gospel that means something to you today?
- How has God blessed and “fed” you, despite your grumbling?
- How does the Eucharist sustain you and challenge you to feed others?
