10th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Genesis 3: 9 - 15
2 Corinthians 4: 13 - 5: 1
Mark 3: 20 - 35

In today’s First Reading from the Book of Genesis we hear the story of Adam and Eve and their sins, defying God. However, when God was present in the garden, the man and woman hid themselves. Adam responds to God’s question why in part by saying “I was afraid… so I hid myself.” Did he, do any of us really think he could hide from God?
As children many of us may have hidden from a parent when we did something wrong, and it was in violation of some specific order we had received. Our efforts to hide what we did and to hide ourselves were probably no more effective than Adam’s.
As humans we know the temptation of following our own plans, even if they are contrary to God’s. We think we know better, and we may try to still have it our way. If what we have done is particularly shameful, we may try to hide our sins from God.
The sincere truth is that we cannot hide from God any more than Adam and Eve could. Psalm 139 declares, “Where can I hide from your spirit (God’s)? From your presence where can I flee? If I ascend to the heavens, you are there; if I lie down in Sheol (the place of the dead) you are there, too. If I say, ‘Surely darkness will hide me’… Darkness is not dark for you.”
What are we hiding from? In recent weeks we have learned over and over how much God loves us. It is time for us to accept that and not hide. (©Catholic Stewardship Consultants)

Update on Parish Renewal!
You are called. You matter. You Belong. There was an amazing turnout of 150 parishioners at the Parish Renewal Gathering May 4th!
To see pictures and read about it, see our article in Faithfully here.
We heard the following feedback from those who attended the Renewal Gathering: - You enjoyed the Gathering and would like to see more events like it.
- You valued praying with scripture/Lectio Divina as a group and sharing your faith.
- You appreciated meeting parishioners you didn’t know before.
- All three pillars of the renewal resonated with you, in particular Strengthening Family Life, as you expressed your desire to form your children in the faith and your concern for family members that have fallen away.
- You long for programs for youth and young adults to learn, grow and keep their faith.
- You would like to receive more formation on the Catholic faith, the Mass, Bible Studies and how to evangelize.
Thank you for sharing your hope for the renewal with us! The Parish Renewal Team will provide a more detailed feedback report in the near future.
Your voice matters!

Our parish needs four women sponsors to accompany those who are on the journey to become Catholic, through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. Sponsors offer companionship and prayer that supports the Catechumen or Candidate through the RCIA process. You do not need to be a teacher of the faith, just a fully initiated and practicing Catholic. Many sponsors have said this role has helped them grow in their own faith. The time commitment is to attend some of the weekly Wednesday evening catechesis sessions and ultimately the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil.

The St. Albert the Great CWL has partnered with Canadian Blood Services to promote blood donation within our community. Join our Partners for Life team (STAL0116763).
NOTE:
The SATG Catholic Women’s League started a 2024 campaign in conjunction with Canadian Blood Services to increase awareness for the need of blood donors. As part of this campaign, we had Canadian Blood Services complete a site inspection in the hopes St. Albert the Great Parish could become a donation site. Unfortunately, the church elevator and ramp do not accommodate the movement of their equipment. Despite us not being able to be a donation site, the CWL continues to encourage all eligible parishioners, their families, and friends across Canada to make a blood or plasma donation this year. Our CWL parish team name is “St. Albert the Great Catholic Women’s League” through www.blood.ca if you wish to join our team. Our team has made 6 donations so far! There are several donation sites across the city that change based on site availability. The Acadia Recreation Complex and Southview Church in Walden are currently the closest sites to our Parish.
Thank you for your continued support!

Please consider donating this weekend so that we can purchase the groceries needed to fill the hampers in the summer months. Donations can be made by cash, cheque or e transfer at svdp.satg.donations@gmail.com. Tax receipts will be issued in Feb 2025.
Thank you for your ongoing support.

Unlocking Hope: Highlights from the International Interfaith Symposium in Health Care
Read this press release announcing the release of a video titled "Unlocking Hope: Highlights from the International Interfaith Symposium on Palliative Care." Taking place from May 21 to May 23, 2024, in Toronto, the symposium gathered leaders, experts, and advocates from diverse backgrounds, including Bishop McGrattan, to explore the vital role of palliative care in fostering compassion and dignity through serious illness and at the end of life. Through engaging presentations, panel discussions, and collaborative workshops, participants worked towards shaping a narrative of hope and understanding in palliative care that transcends cultural and religious boundaries. This video demonstrates the profound discussions and shared aspirations that emerged from the recent symposium organized by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Pontifical Academy for Life, along with other key partners, in Toronto, 21-23 May 2024.

40 Hours Devotion for Vocations
"Getting up in the middle of the night and driving to Adoration for 3 am was an amazing experience. While meditating on the actual presence of Christ right before my eyes, I was struck by how more acute and aware my senses and attention were at this dark hour," shares one parishioner during the 40 Hours Devotion for Vocations. The response to this initiative has indeed been extraordinary. Over the last month and a half, more than a thousand parishioners have come to adore Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament and pray for vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life.

Sunday Bulletin shorts
In the first three chapters of Mark, Jesus is at the beginning of his ministry, and has been curing people of their ailments and casting out demons – in effect “striking at the heel” of Satan (Genesis 3:15). But in doing so, he has also been scandalizing and alarming the Scribes and Pharisees. In this passage Jesus faces opposition, hostility and accusations, with some doubting his sanity, and others saying he is a demon that casts out other demons. Jesus points out the flaw in their logic: “How can Satan cast out Satan?” Christ’s words about the “eternal sin” of blaspheming against the Holy Spirit have been the source of much discussion, with the Catechism of the Catholic Church stating about this passage: “There are no limits to the mercy of God, but anyone who deliberately refuses to accept His mercy by repenting, rejects the forgiveness of his sins and the salvation offered by the Holy Spirit. Such hardness of heart can lead to final impenitence and eternal loss (CCC 1864).” - How do people continue to doubt and question Jesus today?
- In your own understanding, is the Eucharist a thing/object (i.e. the host) or an action, or much more than that – namely the true Presence of a Person? How have you come to this understanding? Has it grown and changed?
- How has your own life been taken, blessed, broken and shared as a Eucharistic child of God

A life-changing journey of faith In this heartfelt story, Sarah Perkin (Brooks teacher) recounts a life-changing journey of faith that began last year in June. By chance, she discovered a teaching position at Christ the King Academy and reached out to inquire. Within a week, she accepted a new role in the Christ the King Academy in Brooks, feeling called to this change. Moving with her daughter Anna, Sarah noticed incredible divine interventions that affirmed her decision. This led her to join the RCIA program in October, seeking answers to her deep-seated questions about faith and life. Once their journey into the Catholic faith began, there was no looking back.
