Our readings today remind us that our God is a tender and loving God. In our Gospel, Jesus heals an ill child. An anxious and loving father sought after Jesus so that his daughter might be cured of her illness. As Jesus was travelling to heal her, they got word that the daughter had died. In that deeply painful moment, a moment no parent wants to experience, Jesus turned and said, “Do not be afraid; just have faith.” Recall a moment when you felt like you hit rock bottom. Maybe you received devastating news, someone died, you lost your job, you were fighting addiction, or you were suffering mentally, spiritually or physically. Maybe you are living that moment or maybe that moment is yet to come. In that time, imagine Jesus looking at you and saying, “Do not be afraid; just have faith.” Remember this verse. May it bring you peace and comfort. Recall that in our First Reading, God does not rejoice in our suffering and death. He rejoices in our faith and our trust in His glorious plan for our lives. Whether we are healed like the little girl in our Gospel in this life, or we carry our suffering with us until we reach the next, if we remain faithful, Jesus will one day say to us, “Little girl or little boy, I say to you, arise!” Today, let us reflect on how much our Good and Gracious God loves us. Remember that whatever we are suffering in this life, do not be afraid, God is right there with us.

The St. Albert the Great CWL has partnered with Canadian Blood Services to promote blood donation within our community. Join our Partners for Life team (STAL0116763).
NOTE:
The SATG Catholic Women’s League started a 2024 campaign in conjunction with Canadian Blood Services to increase awareness for the need of blood donors. As part of this campaign, we had Canadian Blood Services complete a site inspection in the hopes St. Albert the Great Parish could become a donation site. Unfortunately, the church elevator and ramp do not accommodate the movement of their equipment. Despite us not being able to be a donation site, the CWL continues to encourage all eligible parishioners, their families, and friends across Canada to make a blood or plasma donation this year. Our CWL parish team name is “St. Albert the Great Catholic Women’s League” through www.blood.ca if you wish to join our team. Our team has made 6 donations so far! There are several donation sites across the city that change based on site availability. The Acadia Recreation Complex and Southview Church in Walden are currently the closest sites to our Parish.
Thank you for your continued support!

40 Hours Devotion for Vocations
"Getting up in the middle of the night and driving to Adoration for 3 am was an amazing experience. While meditating on the actual presence of Christ right before my eyes, I was struck by how more acute and aware my senses and attention were at this dark hour," shares one parishioner during the 40 Hours Devotion for Vocations. The response to this initiative has indeed been extraordinary. Over the last month and a half, more than a thousand parishioners have come to adore Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament and pray for vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life.

The Pope's Prayer Intention - June 2024
|
In recent years, the number of forcibly displaced people has surpassed the number during the Second World War. According to the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), in 2023, there were 110 million forcibly displaced people worldwide. Pope Francis has called for migrants to be accompanied, supported, and integrated.
The Church also encourages people to pray for migrants on the World Day of Migrants and Refugees, with the theme for 2024 being "God walks with his People," to be observed on Sep. 29. The Pope's Prayer Intention for June 2024: - Let us pray that migrants fleeing from war or hunger, forced to undertake journeys fraught with danger and violence, may find welcome and new living opportunities in their host countries.

Sunday Bulletin shorts
Today’s Gospel is characterized by two strong reactions of amazement. The first amazement is in the townspeople who thought they knew Jesus well because he grew up with them. Their astonishment, however, is a negative one: a local craftsman as a prophet with a divine commission is simply not believable to them. The second amazement comes from Jesus. He is “amazed” at their lack of trust in him and his message. Without their openness to the Spirit working in him, Jesus “could do no deed of power there.” - What amazes you about Jesus?
- Is Jesus able to work any signs of amazement among us or is he amazed at our lack of faith?
- Have you ever felt, or do you know someone who has felt, like a prophet, unrecognized in your hometown?
