Today we celebrate Corpus Christi — the Body and Blood of Christ.  Jesus’ Body and Blood was sacrificed for us on Calvary, but before that excruciating event, He humbly bound Himself to human hands in the Eucharist.  As St. Thomas Aquinas expresses, “In this sacrament sins are purged away, virtues are increased, the soul satiated with an abundance of every spiritual gift.  No other sacrament is so beneficial.”
 
Our Gospel today recounts the Last Supper.  As Jesus ate the Passover meal with His apostles, He broke bread, telling them, “This is my Body,” and again, poured wine, saying, “This is my Blood… which will be shed for many.”  In this moment, Jesus sacrificially gave us Himself in the Eucharist by foreshadowing His passion, death and resurrection.
 
Out of total love, Jesus holds nothing back from us.  He gives us His entire self.
 
We must ask ourselves; do we understand Who we consume at every Mass?
 
It is our Precious Redeemer.
 
As life becomes busy and our minds are filled with the countless things we must get done each day, we often forget to acknowledge our Savior at Mass; or to spend time with Him throughout our week; or to accept all the graces He wishes to bestow on us as we receive Him.  So let us stop and recognize the real presence of our Savior.
 
Jesus gave us the perfect and loving Gift of Himself so that we might be nourished, strengthened and more fully united to Him as we journey to eternal life.  Let us strive to intentionally honour and reverence Him at every Mass; strive to fully partake in each Eucharistic meal; and let us find time to visit our Savior in the Tabernacle.

St. Albert the Great Parish is seeking 2 individuals to develop and manage our social media and other electronic communications.  This volunteer position is an excellent opportunity to gain practical digital communications experience while serving your Parish by connecting with and informing our faithful.  For more information, please click here .

Coming Alive Camp filled up very quickly this year, and as a result the registration form has been closed.  We are currently looking for more adult volunteers so that we can open camp for more children.  If you would like to be added to the waitlist for camp or to volunteer, please email Liisa at  comingalivecamp@gmail.com. 

Our parish needs four women sponsors to accompany those who are on the journey to become Catholic, through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. Sponsors offer companionship and prayer that supports the Catechumen or Candidate through the RCIA process.  You do not need to be a teacher of the faith, just a fully initiated and practicing Catholic.  Many sponsors have said this role has helped them grow in their own faith.  The time commitment is to attend some of the weekly Wednesday evening catechesis sessions and ultimately the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil.

Read this press release announcing the release of a video titled "Unlocking Hope: Highlights from the International Interfaith Symposium on Palliative Care."   

Taking place from May 21 to May 23, 2024, in Toronto, the symposium gathered leaders, experts, and advocates from diverse backgrounds, including Bishop McGrattan, to explore the vital role of palliative care in fostering compassion and dignity through serious illness and at the end of life.  Through engaging presentations, panel discussions, and collaborative workshops, participants worked towards shaping a narrative of hope and understanding in palliative care that transcends cultural and religious boundaries.

This video demonstrates the profound discussions and shared aspirations that emerged from the recent symposium organized by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Pontifical Academy for Life, along with other key partners, in Toronto, 21-23 May 2024. 

"Getting up in the middle of the night and driving to Adoration for 3 am was an amazing experience.  While meditating on the actual presence of Christ right before my eyes, I was struck by how more acute and aware my senses and attention were at this dark hour," shares one parishioner during the 40 Hours Devotion for Vocations.  The response to this initiative has indeed been extraordinary.  Over the last month and a half, more than a thousand parishioners have come to adore Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament and pray for vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life.

This Last Supper account in Mark serves to interpret the death of Jesus through a well-accomplished interplay of predictions and events.  The detail that preparations for this meal were made “on the first day of Unleavened Bread,” when the Passover lamb is sacrificed, heightens the impact of the sacrificial language that Jesus uses of himself at the table.  The heart of the passage are the words of Jesus from which are derived the four main Eucharistic actions – taking, blessing, breaking and sharing.
