12th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Jeremiah 20:10-13 Romans 5:12-15 Matthew 10:26-33
|
Today’s readings call us to tackle the challenging issues of fear and trust — two concepts that must be confronted and dealt with by all of us who wish to live the stewardship way of life.
The Lord knows that facing down our fears and choosing to trust Him with all areas of our lives is an ongoing challenge for us. He is generous with reassurances to us throughout the Scriptures. Today’s Gospel passage from Matthew is a case in point. In the span of eight verses, Jesus addresses the topic of fear four times. - “Fear no one.”
- “Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.”
- “Rather, be afraid of the one who can destroy both soul and body.”
- “So do not be afraid.”
And the reassurance continues. “Are not two sparrows sold for a small coin? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father’s knowledge. Even all the hairs of your head are counted.” Notice that Jesus says, “your Father” in describing God’s intimate knowledge and tender care for each one of us. He is truly “Abba,” our Dad, Who knows us inside and out.
With that, let us all breathe a huge sigh of relief. All is well. Our Father knows us through and through, sent His Son to save us, and will always take care of us.
Let’s stop wasting any more time with fear. Instead, let’s put all our energy, all our time, our talents, and our treasure into trusting this great and loving God, using all that we are and all that He has given us to bring Him glory.

IMPORTANT DONATION INFORMATION
ELECTRONIC FUNDS TRANSFERS – when making donations by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) please put your full name in the memo line, and your address if it is the first time you are sending an EFT donation. We are receiving donations that only come in from the bank with a first name, and we do not know who it belongs to, or what it is for; donation, sacrament fee payment, etc. Also, you may have the same first and last name as another parishioner, and the address helps us correctly record the donation. Your full name and address ensures that we are recording the donation to the correct person for tax receipts at the end of the year.
DONATION ENVELOPES – we are encouraging parishioners to make donations electronically, however we can provide you with a box of donation envelopes and a sheet of labels to put on them, as the envelopes are not numbered. Please come to the parish office Monday through Friday 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, and we can provide you with the box of envelopes and labels. If you do not want the labels, when using envelopes, please PRINT your full name and address on the envelope. If you only put your first name “John”, or your last name “Doe Family”, we do not know who to record the donation to and it gets recorded as loose.

Our parish needs twelve more sponsors to accompany those who are on the journey to become Catholic, through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. Sponsors offer companionship and prayer that supports the Catechumen or Candidate through the RCIA process. You do not need to be a teacher of the faith, just a fully initiated and practicing Catholic. Many sponsors have said this role has helped them grow in their own faith. The time commitment is to attend some of the weekly Wednesday evening catechesis sessions and ultimately the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil. Contact Greg Yont at rcia@stalbertthegreat.ca with any questions.

PLEASE HELP US TELL THE STORY OF OUR PARISH
A small group of the faithful from St. Albert the Great Parish have taken on the mission to put together some recollections and archives going back to the very beginnings of our parish. Our history got away from us and we think that while we’re still able, we need to gather up our memories. We are reaching out to anyone who has been a part of our journey for the past 25 years to help document our past.
We’re not exactly sure of what this is all going to look like, but all stories and memories are important. Can you help us?
Your participation wouldn’t involve a huge time commitment. If you do like meetings and such, we’ve decided to gather once a month to add past events to a giant timeline. But, another way that you might participate is to write down your recollections…events that stick out in your memory or that were really important to your family. You might want to look through your boxes of photos and contribute those or a scan of those. There are many ways that your participation might be celebrated. Whether you walked in the front doors of our church when they first opened 20 years ago, or for the first time a few months ago, you are an important part of our history and we thank you for anything you might do. If you have something to share, please contact us at archives@stalbertthegreat.ca .

List of Summer Retreats - Live In

Sunday Bulletin shorts If last Sunday’s discourse contained practical instructions, this Sunday’s passage focuses on the inner attitudes required of those who are sent out in mission of the Good News. The threefold reference to fear indicates that there certainly was fear among the disciples that this whole divine adventure would be for naught, that worldly powers would kill it before it had a chance to flourish. However, once fear has been conquered, courageous witnessing follows, and Jesus himself will intercede before God for all disciples in all time and place. - When are you afraid to proclaim your faith in Jesus?
- What are the most consoling messages in today’s Gospel for you?
- What part of the reading do you find most difficult?
(Source: Diocese of Saskatoon) Resources for children Resources for children - Kid's challenge this week: Try count the number of hairs on your head, and you can quit when you reach 100. How much of your head do the 100 strands cover? Jesus tells us that the Father knows the number of hairs on our heads. What does that mean to you? Jesus tells us to not be afraid to proclaim the kingdom of heaven. Write in a paper what make you afraid, or for other things you need God's help with. After each need is read, pray together, “God, we trust you because you know us so well.” Conclude by praying the Glory Be to the Father. (Loyola Press)
