11th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Exodus 19:1 - 6a Romans 5:1-11 Matthew 9:36 - 10:8
|
The readings for the 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time provide us with profound insights into the essential aspects of living the stewardship way of life on our Christian journey.
In the first reading from Exodus, we witness the encounter between God and His chosen people at Mount Sinai. The Lord, through Moses, reminds the Israelites of His faithfulness and the covenant He has established with them. This reminds us of our vocation as stewards and disciples. They invite us to embrace the call to stewardship by recognizing our responsibility to care for God's creation and to generously share our gifts with others.
In our second reading from Romans, St. Paul beautifully articulates the depths of God's love for humanity. He reminds us that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us, reconciling us with God and offering us the gift of salvation. As stewards, we are called to gratefully recognize God's abundant love and respond by using our gifts and resources to build His kingdom. In our stewardship and discipleship, we discover the joy of participating in God's redemptive work, bringing hope and healing to a broken world.
The Gospel reading from Matthew recounts how Jesus is moved with compassion as He sees the crowds who are like sheep without a shepherd. He commissions His disciples, empowering them to continue His mission of healing and preaching the Kingdom of God. Like the Good Shepherd, we are called to have hearts filled with empathy and concern for those who are lost, suffering, or in need. Stewardship challenges us to extend a helping hand, offer comfort, and meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of our brothers and sisters in Christ.
By living a life of stewardship and discipleship, we are challenged to move beyond our comfort zones, embracing the call to serve and witness to the transformative power of Christ's love. This requires a willingness to step out in faith, be empowered by the Holy Spirit, and to be instruments of God's grace and healing.

Our parish needs twelve more sponsors to accompany those who are on the journey to become Catholic, through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. Sponsors offer companionship and prayer that supports the Catechumen or Candidate through the RCIA process. You do not need to be a teacher of the faith, just a fully initiated and practicing Catholic. Many sponsors have said this role has helped them grow in their own faith. The time commitment is to attend some of the weekly Wednesday evening catechesis sessions and ultimately the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil. Information sessions will be held at 7:30 pm on June 8th and 10 am on June 10th in the church basement to answer any questions you might have on being a sponsor. These are just information sessions, no commitment required! Contact Greg Yont at rcia@stalbertthegreat.ca with any questions.

PLEASE HELP US TELL THE STORY OF OUR PARISH
A small group of the faithful from St. Albert the Great Parish have taken on the mission to put together some recollections and archives going back to the very beginnings of our parish. Our history got away from us and we think that while we’re still able, we need to gather up our memories. We are reaching out to anyone who has been a part of our journey for the past 25 years to help document our past.
We’re not exactly sure of what this is all going to look like, but all stories and memories are important. Can you help us?
Your participation wouldn’t involve a huge time commitment. If you do like meetings and such, we’ve decided to gather once a month to add past events to a giant timeline. But, another way that you might participate is to write down your recollections…events that stick out in your memory or that were really important to your family. You might want to look through your boxes of photos and contribute those or a scan of those. There are many ways that your participation might be celebrated. Whether you walked in the front doors of our church when they first opened 20 years ago, or for the first time a few months ago, you are an important part of our history and we thank you for anything you might do. If you have something to share, please contact us at archives@stalbertthegreat.ca .

An Update from Bishop Emeritus Henry
|
|
We are happy to hear that Bishop Emeritus Henry is in good spirits! Please take a moment to read the Bishop's update on his health condition: "Thanks to everyone for all the prayer. It is great to be home at the Dorchester. Still in considerable pain in the back but taking Tylenol 3 which helps. Solid sleep for the first time since release. I am thinking about writing a paper on “How to get discharged from an acute care hospital” - central idea is to sing at the top of your voice in your room “Happy Birthday” to at least three people who are not present. The authorities either send you to a more secure facility or home. Glad that they choose the latter – saying “we tried but can’t do anything more for this guy!” I can relate somewhat to what Lazarus must have felt when restored to health by Jesus. Alleluia!
Spent 11 days in Rockyview General Hospital, which I have affectionately named the “The SPA”, and was discharged late Thursday. Grateful for all the prayers, and special thanks to the medical professionals who cared for me with gentleness, patience, skill and compassion. I am sure that I have not always been the best of patients! In addition to my breathing and mobility issues, which are well known, I fell twice which led to my hospitalization – without going into all the procedures, scopes, scans, etc. the final summary on my discharge documentation reads as follows: “Syncope from severe anemia due to bleeding DU resolved after blood transfusions. No principal problem identified.” In short, I may be dizzy but no more than usual. No stairs or driving without OK from family physician for a while. Peace."

List of Summer Retreats - Live In
|
Sunday Bulletin shorts Discipleship involves mission. Seeing the crowds as “sheep without a shepherd” and recognizing that “the harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few,” Jesus summons his 12 disciples and gives them authority and instructions. The disciples’ mission replicates and extends the mission of Jesus in preaching “the good news” that the Kingdom of God has come near, and in healing the sick, casting out demons, and raising the dead. For now, their mission is not to the Gentiles, but only to the people of Israel – later, after the death and resurrection of Jesus, the mission will be extended “to all nations” (Matthew 28:19). - How have you lived out “mission” as a follower of Jesus?
- God is the ultimate shepherd and harvest master – but invites the cooperation of disciples in spreading the “good news.” What is needed in order to step up as an evangelizing “missionary disciple?”
(Source: Diocese of Saskatoon) Resources for children Resources for children - Kid's challenge this week: Today's Gospel reading tells the story of Jesus sending out His twelve apostles to do His work in the nearby towns... Did you know that you are also called to be a disciple of Jesus? For most of us - especially when we are young - we are called to do Jesus' work close to home. What are some of the ways you can be an apostle for Jesus? Maybe you can pray for sick or hurt people that you know of. You can tell people the stories of Jesus that you know... Can you think of more ways? (Kid's Bulletin)
