Deuteronomy 8:2-3, 14B-16A 1 Corinthians 10:16-17 John 6:51-59
|
Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ. Our readings are focused on the gifts of the Word of God and the Eucharist. This feast has deep significance to those of us living the stewardship way of life.
Why? As stewards, we recognize that all that we are and all that we have been given are gifts from God. We are called to treasure these gifts and use them for God’s glory. Our Solemnity today and the readings for this week invite us to a deeper gratitude and better stewardship of the two sublime gifts of God’s Word and the Eucharist.
In our first reading from Deuteronomy, Our Heavenly Father (such a good teacher) reminds us that just as we experience physical hunger from lack of food, we become spiritually malnourished through a lack of feeding on the Word of God. It is that important.
And, just as the Word of God is vital to our spiritual nourishment, so, too, is the nourishment of the Eucharist. Jesus could not make this any clearer to us: “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you.”
Without the Eucharist, we die spiritually. But through the Eucharist, we experience a taste of heaven right now — “Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life.”
As Christian stewards, we must recognize that in the gifts of the Word of God and the Eucharist, we have everything we need to sustain us in this world and guide us to heaven. Let us resolve to steward these precious gifts well with all our hearts, always.

Our parish needs twelve more sponsors to accompany those who are on the journey to become Catholic, through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. Sponsors offer companionship and prayer that supports the Catechumen or Candidate through the RCIA process. You do not need to be a teacher of the faith, just a fully initiated and practicing Catholic. Many sponsors have said this role has helped them grow in their own faith. The time commitment is to attend some of the weekly Wednesday evening catechesis sessions and ultimately the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil. Information sessions will be held at 7:30 pm on June 8th and 10 am on June 10th in the church basement to answer any questions you might have on being a sponsor. These are just information sessions, no commitment required! Contact Greg Yont at rcia@stalbertthegreat.ca with any questions.

CATECHESIS OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD
|
St. Albert the Great Parish
“The Lord is my shepherd there is nothing I shall want…” (Psalm 23)
CGS is a Montessori based Catholic faith formation program where children can joyfully fall deeply in love with God through contemplation of Scripture and Liturgy. St. Albert the Great is happy to announce that we are going to be running 5 week programs starting in September until May on Saturday mornings depending on the interest and support of the community. The program is open to children from the ages of 3 to 6 years old.
To get this program going, we do need a few things. Some help we need would be: - Material making (woodwork, sewing)
- Volunteer Assistant (adult willing to complete a police check)
- Prayers
If you are interested to volunteer or to register, please email: larainne.friesen@gmail.com or schndersa@hotmail.com. Registration will start in the summer as space is limited to only 12 students maximum. Thank you for your support and we look forward to growing in faith with you and your child.

PLEASE HELP US TELL THE STORY OF OUR PARISH
A small group of the faithful from St. Albert the Great Parish have taken on the mission to put together some recollections and archives going back to the very beginnings of our parish. Our history got away from us and we think that while we’re still able, we need to gather up our memories. We are reaching out to anyone who has been a part of our journey for the past 25 years to help document our past.
We’re not exactly sure of what this is all going to look like, but all stories and memories are important. Can you help us?
Your participation wouldn’t involve a huge time commitment. If you do like meetings and such, we’ve decided to gather once a month to add past events to a giant timeline. But, another way that you might participate is to write down your recollections…events that stick out in your memory or that were really important to your family. You might want to look through your boxes of photos and contribute those or a scan of those. There are many ways that your participation might be celebrated. Whether you walked in the front doors of our church when they first opened 20 years ago, or for the first time a few months ago, you are an important part of our history and we thank you for anything you might do. If you have something to share, please contact us at archives@stalbertthegreat.ca .

Sunday Bulletin shorts No less than eight times in today’s Gospel does Jesus say “eat,” “drink,” and “feed,” active commands that remind us that the Eucharist is not so much a noun but a verb. Jesus’s desire is clear: eat of him, drink of him, do not look at him from afar but come near to him and share him for the life of the world. This is how we will know him and be one with him. This is how our love for Christ and for one another in the Eucharist will be revived once again. (Source: Liturgy.Life) Resources for children - Kid's challenge this week: How many different types of bread can you name? Bread is very important in the lives of many people around the world today. In fact, it can be life-changing. As we get ready to go to Mass and share in Communion, remember how very special the bread at Mass is, because it becomes Jesus’ body. We look forward to taking part in this special meal with the whole parish community. Perhaps you could do one thing in the coming week to help those who are hungry either in their local community or around the world. (CAFOD)

Why is June dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus? June has become known as the Month of the Sacred Heart, due to the fact that the feast of the Sacred Heart is celebrated each year during it. It all started when St. Margaret Mary Alacoque received private revelations from Jesus Christ. Read more
