STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION

The readings on this Fifth Sunday of Easter present us with themes of dwelling places and home.  As Christian stewards, we are well aware that this world is not our permanent home.  We are merely pilgrims here, making our way through the stewardship way of life to our true home, heaven.

Yet, as we make our way to heaven, we are called to make our dwelling here — whether we are in a household of one or bursting at the seams — a true “domestic church.”  In other words, the stewardship way of life begins long before we set foot on the parish grounds.  Stewardship starts at home.  It begins with our families — our domestic churches.

The domestic church plays a key role in our sanctification because it is the primary place where we practice intimate and selfless love of other persons.

In our Gospel passage from John, Jesus speaks of heaven as a home filled with dwelling places.  “In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?”  This is a beautiful image of the glory that awaits us and the personal love our Lord has for us in preparing the perfect “spot” for each one of us who remain faithful to Him.

Let us respond to this great love by becoming good stewards of our earthly dwellings, making our homes true “domestic churches” where we honor God with our prayer, our thoughtfulness to each other, and our generous hospitality to all.

Let us never forget that stewardship starts at home!

PLEASE HELP US TELL THE STORY OF OUR PARISH

A small group of the faithful from St. Albert the Great Parish have taken on the mission to put together some recollections and archives going back to the very beginnings of our parish.  Our history got away from us and we think that while we’re still able, we need to gather up our memories.  We are reaching out to anyone who has been a part of our journey for the past 25 years to help document our past.

We’re not exactly sure of what this is all going to look like, but all stories and memories are important.  Can you help us?

Your participation wouldn’t involve a huge time commitment.  If you do like meetings and such, we’ve decided to gather once a month to add past events to a giant timeline.  But, another way that you might participate is to write down your recollections…events that stick out in your memory or that were really important to your family.  You might want to look through your boxes of photos and contribute those or a scan of those.  There are many ways that your participation might be celebrated.  Whether you walked in the front doors of our church when they first opened 20 years ago, or for the first time a few months ago, you are an important part of our history and we thank you for anything you might do.  If you have something to share, please contact us at  archives@stalb...  .

POPE'S PRAYER INTENTION FOR MAY 2023

Ecclesial movements are groups of people committed to an apostolate with their own specific charism, which the Holy Spirit grants for the common good of the Church.  Composed mainly of members of the lay faithful, the search for a personal encounter with Christ unites them.  At the same time, at the service of the Gospel, they dialogue with today’s women and men, wherever they are.

Pope's prayer intention for May 2023: Let us pray that ecclesial movements and groups may daily rediscover their mission, an evangelizing mission, and that they place their own charisms at the service of the world’s needs

Sunday Bulletin shorts, free to use

In typical John-style we hear from the mouth of Jesus the basic building blocks of his true identity, of his life and ministry, and of Christian truth and theology: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.”  As Jesus takes leave from his disciples and they ask where he is going, he stresses once again who he is – I AM.  Jesus’ words are to encourage all disciples to continue believing the God of life.

  1. What part of this reading speaks to you most strongly today?
  2. How do Jesus’ words console you, challenge you, send you forth?

In what way does faith in Jesus help you grow a big heart?

Resources for children

  • Kid's challenge this week: Right at the beginning of today’s gospel, Jesus tells the disciples not to be worried and to believe in him.  He is asking them to trust him.  Think about the people in our lives that we trust.  How does it feel when someone breaks your trust?  This week think about ways to show your trust in God, and what will you do for the people who trust in you?
