Acts 2:1-11 1 1 Corinthians 12:3b-7, 12-13 John 20:19-23
|
Throughout our readings today, we see the amazing truth that the Holy Spirit gives us gifts and guidance in a very personal way. We are meant to use these gifts to build up the Body of Christ in a way that is unique to each one of us.
Our first reading, from the Acts of the Apostles, recalls the dramatic moment when the Holy Spirit was poured out upon the apostles. “Suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim.”
Notice how personal and individual is this outpouring of the Spirit. This personalized way of “gifting” the apostles allowed them each to reach different people, sharing with them the “mighty acts of God.” Embracing the stewardship way of life means that we allow the Holy Spirit to guide us in the best use of the unique gifts He has given to each of us, to accomplish the particular mission entrusted to us.
Jesus gives us this mission in our Gospel passage from John. “As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” But we must not let this responsibility overwhelm us. Jesus Himself, tells us so — “Peace be with you.”
As this Easter season comes to a close, let us be at peace. And let us resolve to lean on the Holy Spirit more and more as our guide through the stewardship way of life.

Our parish needs sponsors to accompany those who are on the journey to become Catholic, through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. Sponsors offer companionship and prayer that supports the Catechumen or Candidate through the RCIA process. You do not need to be a teacher of the faith, just a fully initiated and practicing Catholic. Many sponsors have said this role has helped them grow in their own faith. The time commitment is to attend some of the weekly Wednesday evening catechesis sessions and ultimately the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil.
Please prayerfully consider this invitation, and if you'd like to find out more contact Greg Yont at rcia@stalbertthegreat.ca. May God bless you!

PLEASE HELP US TELL THE STORY OF OUR PARISH
A small group of the faithful from St. Albert the Great Parish have taken on the mission to put together some recollections and archives going back to the very beginnings of our parish. Our history got away from us and we think that while we’re still able, we need to gather up our memories. We are reaching out to anyone who has been a part of our journey for the past 25 years to help document our past.
We’re not exactly sure of what this is all going to look like, but all stories and memories are important. Can you help us?
Your participation wouldn’t involve a huge time commitment. If you do like meetings and such, we’ve decided to gather once a month to add past events to a giant timeline. But, another way that you might participate is to write down your recollections…events that stick out in your memory or that were really important to your family. You might want to look through your boxes of photos and contribute those or a scan of those. There are many ways that your participation might be celebrated. Whether you walked in the front doors of our church when they first opened 20 years ago, or for the first time a few months ago, you are an important part of our history and we thank you for anything you might do. If you have something to share, please contact us at archives@stalbertthegreat.ca .

Sunday Bulletin shorts On that first Easter evening, John describes disciples gripped by fear. Jesus appears, and had to speak "peace" twice before that fear started to dissipate. Jesus’ breathing of the Spirit carries echoes of Genesis 2 when God created the first human being and “breathed into his nostrils the breath of life.” John’s indication that Jesus’ bringing of the Holy Spirit took place on the evening of the day of Resurrection led Tertullian (a third century theologian) to establish that the Fifty Days of Easter are in fact one “great Sunday.” - Recall a time when the Holy Spirit gave you courage to move from fear to confidence.
- What gift or skill do you hesitate to use? What would help you overcome your fear? (Reflection: Diocese of Saskatoon)
Resources for children - Kid's challenge this week: The Holy Spirit gives us the courage to answer Jesus’ call, to do what God asks of us even when it is difficult. We each answer that call in a different way, but the Holy Spirit helps and guides us along the way. What will you do this week to try and spread peace in our world? Try to notice the Holy Spirit in our lives, helping us to be brave, and helping us to spread Jesus’ message of peace in our world. (CAFOD)
