Today’s
readings focus on a theme of “sojourning.” As Christian
stewards, we know our lives are a sojourn toward the ultimate
destination of heaven.
Our Gospel passage today describes the sojourn of the two disciples
on the road to Emmaus. The two are dejected and despondent
after Jesus’ death. They knew Jesus personally. They had
heard the Gospel message directly from His lips. They heard the
testimony of the women who discovered the empty tomb of our Lord and
saw a vision of angels announcing He was alive. They had been
informed by other disciples who went to the tomb that all was exactly
as the women reported.
How much more obvious could the Good News be?
And yet, at times, the reaction of the two disciples describes our
own stewardship journey, doesn’t it? We have the fullness of
the Catholic faith, the power of the sacraments, and the support of
our parish family. Yet, we often lose our way. We fail to
see all the gifts we have been given. We lack trust in the perfect
goodness and almighty power of God.
But notice what happens to the two men when their eyes are opened
once again, and they recognize Jesus in the Eucharist — the “breaking
of the bread.” They are transformed! Their hearts are set
on fire with love for the Lord and their faith. They recall
that their hearts began “burning within” as the Lord was explaining
the Scriptures to them. When we find we have lost our way, we
can go to the same sources as the two disciples on the road to Emmaus
— the Scriptures and the Eucharist.
In this Easter season, resolve to feast deeply on these two sources
of grace. They are the fuel that will propel us on our journey
towards heaven.

PRAY WITHOUT CEASING: THE JESUS
PRAYER
Have
you ever experienced the same song stuck in your head on repeat?
Or, have you ever experienced repetitive thought patterns over
the course of the day? Scripture tells us to take every thought
captive to the obedience of Christ. Filling our hearts and
minds with God is the remedy. We are to "pray without
ceasing," but how? The Jesus Prayer can help. Come
and learn about this simple but powerful ancient prayer of the church
at our next Connect night.

PLEASE HELP US TELL THE STORY OF OUR
PARISH
A
small group of the faithful from St. Albert the Great Parish have
taken on the mission to put together some recollections and archives
going back to the very beginnings of our parish. Our history
got away from us and we think that while we’re still able, we need to
gather up our memories. We are reaching out to anyone who has
been a part of our journey for the past 25 years to help document our
past.
We’re
not exactly sure of what this is all going to look like, but all
stories and memories are important. Can you help us?
Your
participation wouldn’t involve a huge time commitment. If you
do like meetings and such, we’ve decided to gather once a month to
add past events to a giant timeline. But, another way that you
might participate is to write down your recollections…events that
stick out in your memory or that were really important to your
family. You might want to look through your boxes of photos and
contribute those or a scan of those. There are many ways that
your participation might be celebrated. Whether you walked in
the front doors of our church when they first opened 20 years ago, or
for the first time a few months ago, you are an important part of our
history and we thank you for anything you might do. If you have
something to share, please contact us at archives@stalb...

Sunday
Bulletin shorts, free to use
This
account by Luke of one of the resurrection appearances reflects deep
eucharistic and liturgical movements that we still encounter in
today’s celebration of the Mass. Hearing the stranger open up
the scriptures upon the Road to Emmaus, and then sharing table
fellowship with the stranger opens the two travelers to insight and
communion. By interpreting the Scriptures and breaking bread with
the two disciples, Jesus reveals himself. Jesus still reveals
himself to us in the celebration of the Eucharist. The “burning
within us” described by the disciples attests to the validity of
their experience, a revelation that turns the depressed disciples
into courageous witnesses once again.

inspiration from an unexpected encounter.

Pope
Francis: "Remember the suffering people of Yemen"
Pope
Francis shed light on the Christian witnesses present all over the
world, and in a particular way brings everyone’s attention to Yemen,
“a land that has been wounded for many years by a terrible, forgotten
war, which has caused so many deaths and still causes so many people
to suffer, especially children.” As a glimmer of hope appears
on the horizon for Yemen, Pope Francis calls on the faithful to
remember the suffering people of the country. Read more
