Today’s
readings on this third Sunday of Lent present us with the theme of
“thirst” and show us that a stewardship way of life can both satisfy
our spiritual thirst for Christ and help us to satisfy Christ’s
thirst for souls.
Our first reading, from the book of Exodus, begins with the words,
“In their thirst for water, the people grumbled against Moses.”
What little faith and lack of trust they show after all God has done
to free them from slavery. But Moses cried out to God for help,
and sure enough, God provided generously to satisfy their thirst. He
continues to provide generously for us these many centuries later.
Our Gospel passage from John recounts the life-changing encounter
Christ has with the Samaritan woman at the well beginning with His
words to her, “Give me a drink.” Then, He adds, “If you knew
the gift of God and who is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you
would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”
Christ is speaking the very same words to us today. These two
verses encapsulate the call to stewardship. Christ asks us to
“give him a drink” by sharing what we have with Him and with others
for His sake. Yet, it is Christ Himself who provides the water
— the living water that is His grace.
God has chosen to include us in His plan for bringing all people to
salvation through Him. We live out our part in His plan through
a stewardship way of life. This Lent, let us resolve to respond
to His call with passion and commitment. Let us do our part to
quench His thirst.

CWL BABY BOTTLE LENTEN DRIVE
St.
Albert the Great CWL is excited to announce that we will be
organizing a Baby Bottle Lenten project this year using the baby
bottle theme once again. We saw how much fun everyone had with
this last year and wanted to surprise and delight you with this
again. We heard that there were many competitions in our Parish
and we certainly welcome you to email us at satgcwl@gmail....
to share your stories.
The
proceeds this year are going to St. Vincent de Paul where we have
partnered to create a program exclusive for baby supplies such as
diapers, formula etc, Kara program's St. Annes Pantry - assisting
pregnant and parenting female and male students and other CWL
supported charities that we participate in. We look forward to
seeing you this weekend and let the fun, learning and spiritual
growth commence in such a family orientated Lenten activity.

PLEASE HELP US TELL THE STORY OF OUR
PARISH
A
small group of the faithful from St. Albert the Great Parish have
taken on the mission to put together some recollections and archives
going back to the very beginnings of our parish. Our history
got away from us and we think that while we’re still able, we need to
gather up our memories. We are reaching out to anyone who has
been a part of our journey for the past 25 years to help document our
past.
We’re
not exactly sure of what this is all going to look like, but all
stories and memories are important. Can you help us?
Your
participation wouldn’t involve a huge time commitment. If you
do like meetings and such, we’ve decided to gather once a month to
add past events to a giant timeline. But, another way that you
might participate is to write down your recollections…events that
stick out in your memory or that were really important to your
family. You might want to look through your boxes of photos and
contribute those or a scan of those. There are many ways that
your participation might be celebrated. Whether you walked in
the front doors of our church when they first opened 20 years ago, or
for the first time a few months ago, you are an important part of our
history and we thank you for anything you might do. If you have
something to share, please contact us at archives@stalb...

LENTEN RETREAT AT SATG: INTO THE
DEEP - FINDING PEACE THROUGH PRAYER
Are
you searching for peace?
God
promises that when we draw near to Him that He will draw near to
us. The way to draw near is through prayer. That is the
path to peace.
What
is prayer, exactly? What sets authentic Christian prayer apart
from the many “spiritual” practices being promoted today? How
does one pray? Is it really necessary? These
questions—and many more—will be answered at our retreat day.
Spiritual
directors Elizabeth Sanesh and Michelle Diment, together with the
Come As You Are team, will be hosting the retreat using a
professionally produced video series featuring the founder of the
Avila Institute and former president of EWTN, Dan Burke! There
will also be small group discussions and time for Q&A.
This Lenten retreat day takes place
on Saturday March 18th from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm in the parish hall.
Cost is $10 per person and includes the book Into the Deep:
Finding Peace Through Prayer by Dan Burke. Coffee/Tea provided.
Please bring a bag lunch.

Registration is open for the 2023
God Squad 26th Annual Conference!
Friday March 17, 2023 from 6 PM to 9 PM
and Saturday March 18,
2023 from 9 AM to 4 PM
St. Michael's Catholic Community
800, 85 St SW, Calgary Alberta
Take this opportunity to empower and inspire you to become who God
created and calls you to be.
Why should you come to this year's conference?
Why should you bring another man with you?
To strengthen our culture, our family and our faith. And the
way we do that is becoming men of the cross, living our faith from
the Cross of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
This year’s theme is Memento
Mori which invites us to remember our death, that the
final things are death, judgment, heaven or hell.
In the sheer silence of our hearts, the Lord’s theophony calls us to
be bearers of light and to live for heaven, drawing upon us amidst today’s darkness
of spiritual famine and moral confusion.

This
long dialogue around thirst and water has long been one of the
Church’s prime Scriptures to illustrate the journey from unbelief to
faith. Therefore, it is aptly connected to the baptismal
journey of the catechumens during Lent. The awakening of faith
in the newly baptized re-ignites the fervent of the Church’s
faith. The powerful Gospel account speaks for itself!
- From this reading, what do you observe about
the stages of faith development?
- Are there elements in the story that suggest
that the Samaritan woman is marginalized or considered
undesirable in her community? Who is it in your
neighbourhood/town who is considered less desirable?
- Why do you think Jesus chooses to reveal
himself to a woman, to a Samaritan/outsider?
- For what do you thirst – in your families,
your workplace, your parish?
(Source: Diocese of Saskatoon)
Kid's challenge this week: Today we hear a story about Jesus talking to a
Samaritan woman at a well. This story reminds us that God loves
all people no matter where they are from. God asks us to be
like Jesus and to respect and care for all people no matter who they
are. Show 3 ways you can treat others like Jesus this week.
