As
our Advent preparations draw to a close and Christmas fast
approaches, it is fitting that today’s readings demonstrate the
intensity of the Father’s perfect and passionate love for each of us,
culminating in the gift of His own Son, Jesus Christ, on Christmas
Day.
In response to such an overwhelming gift, what can we do except offer
our lives as gift in return, embracing a stewardship way of life with
all the love and strength we have to give?
In our Gospel passage from Matthew, we find an unparalleled example
of one who embraced this way of life in St. Joseph, as he obeys God’s
call to him through the message of an angel.
We never hear St. Joseph speak, but the Scriptures tell us he was
always listening, attentive to the leading of the Holy Spirit for his
family. It was Joseph who found the stable where the baby Jesus
would be born. No doubt it was Joseph who cleaned it up and
prepared it for Mary and Jesus since we know that Mary was about to
give birth. Joseph protected the family, guarded them, and
tended to their safety, their comfort, and their well-being at the
expense of his own plans and preferences. Though we do not hear
any words from St. Joseph his actions clearly show that he offered
himself, his whole life, as a gift to his family through his strong
guidance, protection, and service.
Let us imitate St. Joseph, then, as good stewards, giving our very
lives to those around us in love and gratitude to God, who has given
us everything we have, especially His own Son, Jesus Christ.

non

vegetables and
gift cards, all of which were donated by you and our many
sponsors in the
community.
We are grateful for the support of the schools in our parish
and give a
big thank you to the students, teachers, and staff at St John
Henry Newman,
St Marguerite, St Isabella, Msgr Smith, Christ the King, Divine
Mercy, St
Albert the Great, Our Lady of the Rosary, Prince of Peace, St
Gianna.
We would also like to thank the many volunteers that gave their
time to set
up, pack and deliver the hampers.
Together, we have brought the spirit of giving to our neighbors

Madly
in love! Committed! Through thick and thin! For
better or for worse! Growing strong marriages takes a supportive
village. That's why St. Albert the Great Parish is launching a
monthly Catholic Date Night in the New Year. We want to
encourage and support married couples to take intentional time to
focus on their relationship.
A
Core Planning Team of several married couples - of all ages - is
needed. Could that be you & your spouse? If you enjoy
event planning and organization, AND have a love for the Sacrament of
Marriage, please reach out to Michelle & Tom Diment by email:
joyfulnoise9am@gmail.com for details.

Advent
Penitential Service
Advent
penitential services are returning to parishes across the Diocese of
Calgary. We invite all the faithful of the Diocese to prepare
for Christmas by receiving the sacrament of reconciliation. A
list of penitential services across the Diocese of Calgary and parish
confession schedule can be found on our Advent page at catholicyyc.ca/advent.
Celebrate
the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ, our Saviour! Here is the
updated list of Christmas Mass times (Nativity
of the Lord & Solemnity of Mary) in the Diocese of Calgary.
The list is also available on iamblessed.ca
Whereas
Luke’s infancy narrative features Mary, Matthew’s account of the
birth of Christ features Joseph. Matthew connects Joseph to the
Joseph in Genesis (The youngest son of Jacob, chapters 38-50)
especially through the occurrence of a dream in which the angel
appears. Joseph is also “from the line of David.” Joseph
is challenged to trust without knowing the outcome of events – that
is the essence of faith.
- What themes or lessons do you draw from this
Gospel account?
- Recall a time when you were challenged to
trust without knowing the outcome.
- How can we be living signs of “God-with-us”
in our parish community and in our world?
(Source: Diocese of Saskatoon)
- Kid's
challenge this week: Name someone you
trust and discuss why you trust this person. In today's
Gospel Reading, we hear the story of how God sends a message to
Joseph in a dream and asks Joseph to trust in God's plan.
Do you think it was easy for Joseph to trust God and God's
messenger? Why or why not? Let us pray as we
celebrate Christmas this week that we will always be people who
trust God. (Loyola Press)

through Christ. Read his message at catholicyyc.ca/blog
Bishop's
Pastoral Letter on the Horizons of Hope
Bishop
McGrattan releases a pastoral letter for the faithful on the Horizons of Hope: A
toolkit for Catholic Parishes on Palliative Care. This
toolkit was developed by the CCCB as a positive response to the end

In
the letter, the Bishop explains how Horizons of Hope will create
opportunities for learning and reflections upon end-of-life issues
and to promote the need for excellent palliative care. It will
assist in clarifying misinformation, and reverse the deceptive
messaging found in this increasing culture of death.
All the faithful are invited to take part in the 4-module
