STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION

As our Advent preparations draw to a close and Christmas fast approaches, it is fitting that today’s readings demonstrate the intensity of the Father’s perfect and passionate love for each of us, culminating in the gift of His own Son, Jesus Christ, on Christmas Day.

In response to such an overwhelming gift, what can we do except offer our lives as gift in return, embracing a stewardship way of life with all the love and strength we have to give?

In our Gospel passage from Matthew, we find an unparalleled example of one who embraced this way of life in St. Joseph, as he obeys God’s call to him through the message of an angel.

We never hear St. Joseph speak, but the Scriptures tell us he was always listening, attentive to the leading of the Holy Spirit for his family.  It was Joseph who found the stable where the baby Jesus would be born.  No doubt it was Joseph who cleaned it up and prepared it for Mary and Jesus since we know that Mary was about to give birth.  Joseph protected the family, guarded them, and tended to their safety, their comfort, and their well-being at the expense of his own plans and preferences.  Though we do not hear any words from St. Joseph his actions clearly show that he offered himself, his whole life, as a gift to his family through his strong guidance, protection, and service.

Let us imitate St. Joseph, then, as good stewards, giving our very lives to those around us in love and gratitude to God, who has given us everything we have, especially His own Son, Jesus Christ.

 community.

We are grateful for the support of the schools in our parish and give a
big thank you to the students, teachers, and staff at St John Henry Newman,

Madly in love!  Committed!  Through thick and thin!  For better or for worse! Growing strong marriages takes a supportive village.  That's why St. Albert the Great Parish is launching a monthly Catholic Date Night in the New Year.   We want to encourage and support married couples to take intentional time to focus on their relationship.

A Core Planning Team of several married couples - of all ages - is needed.  Could that be you & your spouse?  If you enjoy event planning and organization, AND have a love for the Sacrament of Marriage, please reach out to Michelle & Tom Diment by email: joyfulnoise9am@gmail.com  for details.

Parish Christmas Masses

Sunday Bulletin shorts

Whereas Luke’s infancy narrative features Mary, Matthew’s account of the birth of Christ features Joseph.  Matthew connects Joseph to the Joseph in Genesis (The youngest son of Jacob, chapters 38-50) especially through the occurrence of a dream in which the angel appears.  Joseph is also “from the line of David.”  Joseph is challenged to trust without knowing the outcome of events – that is the essence of faith.

  • What themes or lessons do you draw from this Gospel account?
  • Recall a time when you were challenged to trust without knowing the outcome.
  • How can we be living signs of “God-with-us” in our parish community and in our world?

Resources for children

  • Kid's challenge this week: Name someone you trust and discuss why you trust this person.  In today's Gospel Reading, we hear the story of how God sends a message to Joseph in a dream and asks Joseph to trust in God's plan.  Do you think it was easy for Joseph to trust God and God's messenger?  Why or why not?  Let us pray as we celebrate Christmas this week that we will always be people who trust God. Bishop's Pastoral Letter on the Horizons of Hope
