STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION

On this Feast of the Ascension, we celebrate Christ’s triumphant return to the Father after perfectly accomplishing His mission on earth.  But we also can also view this Feast as a celebration of the “launch day” of our commissioning as Christ’s disciples.

Today’s Gospel draws our attention to the clear instructions that Jesus gave His disciples (and to us) just before ascending to the Father:  “Thus it is written that the Christ would suffer and rise from the dead on the third day and that repentance, for the forgiveness of sins, would be preached in his name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.  You are witnesses of these things."

Embracing a stewardship way of life, with its emphasis on the use of time, talent and treasure, helps us to live in such a way that our very lives speak as a witness of the Good News of the Gospel.  While we take time to reflect and renew our commitments in these three areas annually as a parish family, it is of great benefit to take some time individually throughout the year to take stock of the commitments we have made — looking at both our strengths and our need for continued growth in each area.

On this Feast of our "launch day," take some time to celebrate your victories as Christ’s disciples and renew your commitment to remain faithful to Him and the unique mission He has entrusted to you!

PAPAL VISIT TO CANADA | JULY 24-29

As many of you heard last Friday, Pope Francis will make a pastoral visit to Canada from July 24 to 29, 2022.  The Pope’s visit will provide an opportunity for him to listen and dialogue with Indigenous Peoples, to express his heartfelt closeness and to address the impact of residential schools in Canada.  The papal visit will also provide an opportunity for the shepherd of the world’s 1.2 billion Catholics to connect with the Catholic community in Canada.  Pope Francis will adopt three communities as a base for his Canadian visit: Edmonton, Quebec City, and Iqaluit

Specific programming and events will be confirmed approximately six weeks prior to the Holy Father’s arrival.  Visit papalvisit.ca or visitepapale.ca for more information and to stay updated on the latest developments.

Resources & Announcements

  1. Ascension of the Lord - Bulletin Shorts, free to use
Befriending God.   Saint Luke addresses Theophilus at the beginning of the Acts of the Apostles.  “Friend of God” is an apt translation of this Greek name.  In addressing him, he is addressing each of us. We are called to witness to God in Christ as only a friend can do.
    • How, as a friend, will I witness to Christ?
    • How, as a friend, will I live the Christian life?
    • How, as a friend, will I “teach” others, perhaps more by what I do than by what I say?
      (Source: Diocese of Springfield)

  1. Resources for children
    • Kid's challenge this week: Jesus has this place of honour, seated now at the right hand of the Father.  Discuss with your family about why it might be important to a person to sit in a particular place. And then pray the Apostles' Creed together.  (Loyola Press)
