2nd Reading: Ephesians 1.17-23 or Hebrews 9.24-28; 10.19-23
Gospel: Luke 24.44-53

On this Feast of the Ascension, we celebrate Christ’s triumphant return to the Father after perfectly accomplishing His mission on earth.  But we also can also view this Feast as a celebration of the “launch day” of our commissioning as Christ’s disciples.

Today’s Gospel draws our attention to the clear instructions that Jesus gave His disciples (and to us) just before ascending to the Father:  “Thus it is written that the Christ would suffer and rise from the dead on the third day and that repentance, for the forgiveness of sins, would be preached in his name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.  You are witnesses of these things."

Embracing a stewardship way of life, with its emphasis on the use of time, talent and treasure, helps us to live in such a way that our very lives speak as a witness of the Good News of the Gospel.  While we take time to reflect and renew our commitments in these three areas annually as a parish family, it is of great benefit to take some time individually throughout the year to take stock of the commitments we have made — looking at both our strengths and our need for continued growth in each area.

On this Feast of our "launch day," take some time to celebrate your victories as Christ’s disciples and renew your commitment to remain faithful to Him and the unique mission He has entrusted to you!

Volunteers are needed to porter residents at the McKenzie Care Centre for the Tuesday morning Mass/Communion Services.  We ask for maximum 2 hours of your time.  The Mass and Communion Services mean a lot and are essential for the residents who are no longer independent but want to receive the Sacrament of Eucharist.

What do you call a man or woman who stands up in a Catholic church and lends his or her voice to God?  A LECTOR.  If you are being called to proclaim God’s word, then please consider joining the Lector Ministry and fulfill that calling.

We will be holding a training session for those who are new to this ministry and those who would like to have a little refresher training.

The training session will be held on June 8, 2022 at 7:00 pm after the evening Mass.
Please direct any questions to volunteers@stalbertthe...

The Knights of Columbus will be holding a bottle drive on the weekend of June 11/12.  Please bring all your bottles, aluminum cans, and milk and juice cartons to the church parking lot after all Saturday and Sunday Masses or anytime during the day that weekend.  Proceeds will be used to support our Iranian family (50%) seminarian, scholarships and Coats for Kids.

As many of you heard last Friday, Pope Francis will make a pastoral visit to Canada from July 24 to 29, 2022.  The Pope’s visit will provide an opportunity for him to listen and dialogue with Indigenous Peoples, to express his heartfelt closeness and to address the impact of residential schools in Canada.  The papal visit will also provide an opportunity for the shepherd of the world’s 1.2 billion Catholics to connect with the Catholic community in Canada.  Pope Francis will adopt three communities as a base for his Canadian visit: Edmonton, Quebec City, and Iqaluit

Specific programming and events will be confirmed approximately six weeks prior to the Holy Father’s arrival.  Visit or for more information and to stay updated on the latest developments.

Resources & Announcements

  1. Ascension of the Lord - Bulletin Shorts, free to use
Befriending God.   Saint Luke addresses Theophilus at the beginning of the Acts of the Apostles.  “Friend of God” is an apt translation of this Greek name.  In addressing him, he is addressing each of us. We are called to witness to God in Christ as only a friend can do.
    • How, as a friend, will I witness to Christ?
    • How, as a friend, will I live the Christian life?
    • How, as a friend, will I “teach” others, perhaps more by what I do than by what I say?

  1. Resources for children
    • Kid's challenge this week: Jesus has this place of honour, seated now at the right hand of the Father.  Discuss with your family about why it might be important to a person to sit in a particular place. And then pray the Apostles' Creed together.  (Loyola Press)

  7. St. Justin, Martyr (Feast Day: June 1)
As patron of philosophers, Justin may inspire us to use our natural powers—especially our power to know and understand—in the service of Christ, and to build up the Christian life within us.  For his staunch adherence to the Christian religion, Justin was beheaded in Rome in 165.  Read more
